The meeting between the Nigerian government and leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress on Wednesday
over the ongoing over the nation-wide strike ended with no resolution.
The National Security Policiser Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu invited the labour leaders to his office in Abuja for a meeting in an effort
to end the strike declared by the organized lavour to protest against the attack and brutalisation of the NLC's National President.
It was earlier reported that the NSA had in a statement said that some Ajaero's attackers had been arrested and that Investigation on
the matter is ongoing, which he said his office is coordinating.
But speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Minister of Labour, Simon Lalong said that though the meeting was fruitful, the
labour did not immedicarely agree to call off the strike, rather, they promised to go back and discuss the outcome of the meeting with
their constituencies and revert to the government.
He said, "The meeting was in respect to the incident that happened especially in Imo. This meeting came under heavy security
consideration. That is why we took the meeting to the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and all the Labour leaders
were also here with us.
When asked if any agreement was reached, he said it was still an ongoing discussion, adding that the government does not expect the
strike to take long anymore. They have decided to take it back and finalize a decision.
The People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate In Saturday's governorship election in Kogi State, Dino Melaye, has slammed the
Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the conduct of the polls.
In an interview with AIT, Melaye, who came third after the final collation of results, described the event of last Saturday as
a sham. The former Kogi West lawmaker also took a swipe at the INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmoud Yakubu.
He said, ""He Yakubu is a promoter of fraud, supporter of illegality and champίon of rigging. I have seen rigging in diverse forms
since I started politics. I've seen ballot papers snatching, stuffing, pocket of violence, inflation of results and so on. But what
happened in Kogi State is legendary and has never haappened in the history of mankind. It tas never happened in South of the Sahara or
North of the Limpopo. What I saw was unimaginable, he added.
Earlier, Melaye called for a cancellation of the election alleging that figures were allocated to each candidate.
